Some of the same strokes are used as Swedish but the movement is slower and the pressure is deeper and concentrated on areas of tension and pain.

This is accomplished by rubbing the muscles with long gliding strokes in the direction of blood returning to the heart. But Swedish massage therapy goes beyond relaxation. This style of massage is primarily used to treat medical conditions of arthritis and fibromayalgia. It is also a very beneficial treatment for athletes. It utilizes a gentle technique working from the central nervous system out. This causes the body to release rigidity by decreasing pressure on the joints.
